Running Bristol Half Marathon for SafeLives!
Rosie May
My Story
I'm running the Bristol Half Marathon to raise money for SafeLives (the organisation I work for).
SafeLives is the UK-wide charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse, for everyone and for good.
They work with organisations across the UK to transform the response to domestic abuse. They want what you would want for your best friend. They listen to survivors, putting their voices at the heart of our thinking. They look at the whole picture for each individual and family to get the right help at the right time to make families everywhere safe and well. And they challenge perpetrators to change, asking ‘why doesn’t he stop?’ rather than ‘why doesn’t she leave?’ This applies whatever the gender of the victim or perpetrator and whatever the nature of their relationship.
SafeLives is a second-tier charity, which means they work at a systemic level to change the UK’s response to responding to domestic abuse. They talk to survivors and to people on the frontline – from refuge workers, healthcare professionals, police, teachers and so many others – to expose the gaps in the system and to find out what excellent support looks like for victims and survivors, and to spread the word – ensuring this best practice is replicated across the country.
